Group Condemns Natasha Akpoti’s Outburst, Calls For Her Suspension

A Pan-African women’s advocacy group, Africa Arise for Change Network, has criticised Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over her recent altercation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing her behaviour as “disgraceful” and “unbefitting of a public officeholder”. In a statement issued on Friday by Patricia Idoko, the country representative of the organisation, the group said Akpoti’s actions on the Senate floor during Thursday’s plenary session undermined the principles of leadership and decorum expected of women in governance. The controversy erupted after Akpoti reportedly defied a directive from the Senate Chief Whip regarding seat reassignments, following the defection of two senators.  While others complied, the Kogi senator allegedly refused to vacate her previous seat, leading to an exchange with the Senate President. Retired Police Officers Decry Pension Challenges As Seven Die In One Week, Plan Protest At National Assembly

Kaduna State Chapter of Retired Police Officers has  said that  seven of its members were buried within one week due to severe poverty attributed to their Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). The Chairman of the Retirees Kaduna State Chapter, CSP Mannir Lawal Zaria (rtd), made this known in a statement   issued to journalists, shortly after their monthly general meeting held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Kaduna. The retirees are urging the passage of two bills currently pending at the National Assembly.  These bills seek to exclude the Nigeria Police from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and also  establish the Nigeria Police Pension Board. Zamfara Market Explosion: NEMA Deploys Rescue Team

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has swiftly responded to the explosion incident that occurred at a popular market in Talata Mafara, Zamfara on Tuesday. This was disclosed in a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday by the Head of Sokoto Operations Office of the agency, Mr Aliyu Kafindangi. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the afternoon, while activities of the were ongoing. "Following incident, NEMA's  Director General Mrs. Zubaida Umar activated it's Sokoto Operations Office that deployed a rescue team that responded the situation. "Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion resulted in the immediate loss of three lives and injured around 50 individuals. The explosion triggered a subsequent fire that destroyed numerous shops and market stalls," the statement said. 300,000 Vulnerable Households To Benefit From Senator Yari’s Ramadan Welfare Package

Senator Abdul’aziz Yari  has concluded arrangements for the 2025 annual Ramadan welfare for over 300,000 vulnerable households. The Chairman, Publicity Committee of Sen. Yari’s Political Organization, Alhaji Ibrahim Danmadami, disclosed this to newsmen when he paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Gusau on Wednesday. Yari, the former governor of the state is representing Zamfara West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
