Zamfara Market Explosion: NEMA Deploys Rescue Team
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has swiftly responded to the explosion incident that occurred at a popular market in Talata Mafara, Zamfara on Tuesday.
This was disclosed in a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday by the Head of Sokoto Operations Office of the agency, Mr Aliyu Kafindangi.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the afternoon, while activities of the were ongoing.
"Following incident, NEMA's Director General Mrs. Zubaida Umar activated it's Sokoto Operations Office that deployed a rescue team that responded the situation.
"Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion resulted in the immediate loss of three lives and injured around 50 individuals. The explosion triggered a subsequent fire that destroyed numerous shops and market stalls," the statement said.
The statement further said that among the injured, 46 people have been admitted to Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto where they are receiving treatment in various departments, including orthopedics, surgery, the ICU burn unit, among others.
The NEMA is collaborating with the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency and other relevant authorities to provide essential assistance to those affected.
